Methodology

RAPM estimates each player’s impact on their team’s expected goal difference by controlling for the quality of all other players on the pitch. SPM predicts RAPM from box-score statistics, providing a stable prior for players with less playing time. The final Panna rating combines both via Bayesian shrinkage.

A positive offense rating means the player helps create expected goals. A negative defense rating means the player prevents them. Higher overall Panna = more valuable player.
