I’m Pete Owen, a sports analytics enthusiast based in Australia. I build open-source R packages for rating players and predicting matches across football, cricket, and AFL.

Projects

• panna – Football player ratings using Regularized Adjusted Plus-Minus (RAPM) with a Statistical Plus-Minus (SPM) prior. Covers 15 leagues from the Big 5 to Champions League.

• bouncer – Cricket analytics with ELO ratings and skill indices for batters and bowlers. Supports T20, ODI, and Test formats.

• torp – AFL player ratings decomposing value into receiving, disposal, spoil, and hitout contributions.

Beyond Sport

I also write about effective altruism, evidence-based policy, and whatever else I find interesting.
